Mixed Use
This mixed-use building in the city of West Hollywood is slightly unusual in that it has wide frontage and shallow depth. In order to maximize the allowable floor area, the project employs an automobile lift to access the one subterranean level parking level. The project has eight spaces on the ground level servicing the retail and visitors, and 15 spaces on the subterranean level for employees.
The varying architectural masses of the project are intended to expresses the functional components of the building. The ground level has a retail space associated with the street and features a new building entry that draws the public into the vertical lobby. Two floating white boxes correspond to the office uses, while the top level with it’s folded, colored roof defines the residential space. Given the minimal required components of a lease office building, the vertical circulation elements are used in the front and back to create some sculptural expression and provide an overall identity for the project.
